Editorial Policy

Last updated

Every page on Material Guides is written and reviewed by Eren Şimşir. This page explains how.

What we publish

Calculators for estimating materials, and guides that explain how to measure, what the numbers mean and what to watch for. We only publish a guide when it adds something a reader can use: a worked example, a table, a diagram or a clear answer to a specific question.

How numbers are checked

  • Formulas are published on the methodology page.
  • Calculator code has automated tests with hand-worked examples.
  • Tables in guides are generated from that code, not typed by hand.
  • Product figures are checked against labels and data sheets, and building rules against the code that publishes them.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to help research, outline and draft. A person reviews every page before it is published, rewrites it where needed and checks every number against the calculator code or a primary source. No page is published automatically.

Independence

Material Guides is independent. No manufacturer or retailer pays for coverage or reviews pages before publication. The site may show advertising; advertisers have no say in the content. If we ever add affiliate links, pages that contain them will say so.

Updates and corrections

Pages are reviewed at least once a year and whenever a product figure or code requirement changes. Each page shows the date it was last updated, and that date changes only when the content does. To report an error, use the contact page.
